Sunflower & I

Update April 2023- Unfortunately Sunflower & I is no longer trading.

Sunflower & I‘ is tucked away on Mount Stuart Square in Cardiff Bay. I visited on a quiet Sunday afternoon and was lucky enough to be able to park right outside in a parking meter bay.

The venue itself is amazing! When you walk in the door there is so much to look at. I love all the quirky vintage decorations and the pretty floral arrangements. There is a grand piano, chandeliers, draped curtains and gorgeous high ceilings and pillars.

The room itself its quite dark, but the attention to detail is fantastic. There was even a chandelier in the loo. Lots of the items are available to purchase like vases and various trinkets. This venue is cafe/bar, a music venue and a florist! It is also a wedding venue!

We booked a traditional afternoon tea for £21.50 per person. You can upgrade to a champagne afternoon tea for £28.50 per person.

I loved the table we were given. It had a crochet doilies and lovely vintage china and vase with a flower. The teapot was HUGE! Perfect for three of us.

The afternoon tea consisted of various sandwiches including chicken and mayo, salmon and cream cheese and ham and cheese. The scones were giant and very crumbly and were accompanied by clotted cream and mini Tiptree jam jars- my fave!

There were also strawberries, grapes and a selection of patisserie style cakes. Rich mini chocolate and coconut truffles, mini caramel ice cream cones, a plain doughnut ball and a chocolate similar to a Ferrero Rocher.

The cakes were different to the usual afternoon tea cakes. Our server didn’t really explain what the items were and explained that the owners were Polish, so they were a selection of Polish cakes. Unfortunately we weren’t given three slices of each cake slice, only two of each type, so we had to split the cakes between us.

All the staff were welcoming and friendly and our server was hilarious. He told off my friends for being late and making me wait for half hour on my own. He was entertaining and kept me company, plus I was busy taking photos! It was also the first time we were given a flower when we finished our afternoon tea. This was a really nice touch.

I really liked the venue for its décor and quirkiness. Its definitely worth a visit for a different kind of afternoon tea experience.
