The Orchard, Radyr

A Saturday visit to The Orchard in Radyr seemed like a popular place to be. The cafe was busy and bustling. The cafe is nicely presented with some vintage styles but with modern touches too.  Lovely chandelier here too.

As it was busy, I did find it was quite noisy as there were lots of people talking. Maybe it needs some kind of acoustic panels or more soft furnishings?

We were greeted and shown to our table quickly.  We were offered a choice of tea or coffee. This was the first time i’ve had a tea strainer for our teapot which was a nice touch.

We didn’t have to wait long for our cake stand to be delivered and it looked fantastic. Our waitress explained the cakes and sandwiches to us.

The sandwiches were ham and homemade chutney, salmon and cream cheese, cheese and my favourite was pesto, tomato and mozzarella. These were accompanied by warm ham and cheese quiche slices and a delicious warm croissant with Welsh rarebit (like a posh cheese on toast). The croissant was so tasty, I could happily eat these every day.20180428_150847

The scones were a good size and still warm from the oven. I was disappointed that the cream was whipped cream and not clotted cream. Clotted cream is a must!

On the top tier there was a carrot cake, chocolate brownie and a custard tart slice and a lemon mousse. The custard tart slice was especially good.

I really enjoyed the different flavour sandwiches and the extra touches like the croissants and the custard slice. The venue was had a nice setting and the staff were very welcoming.  The food was presented perfectly and I will definitely be visiting again soon!

  1. 🙌🏼 I have been scouring the internet the last couple of days for somewhere nice and new to go for tea and cake in Cardiff. Then I found your blog… yay! The Orchard is next on our list, but tomorrow we’re going to Barkers Tearooms for lunch. We went to the tea rooms in Pentyrch a few weeks ago. We’re on the lookout for nice places for a catch up, and we love cake. I’ll keep an eye out on your blog xx
