January 2020 Update-
Unfortunately Milk & Sugar – The Old Library venue is no longer open
I have followed Milk & Sugar on Instagram for a while but hadn’t yet visited for a coffee or food. I noticed they started doing afternoon tea in the Old Library and my sister and I booked a visit.

You go up the big staircase and follow the signs to the restaurant. To my surprise is a big bright airy room with a mezzanine level. It was a Friday afternoon and it was pretty busy. One long table was set up for a corporate buffet and I could see the cakes and sandwiches looked amazing. The buffet looked really good and the guests seemed to be enjoying it. Looked like a great place for a team lunch.
We were seated quickly and the table was laid out ready for us. We were offered a prosecco afternoon tea and I accepted. As my sister is pregnant they offered her a mocktail and my sister’s glass came with flowers in. This was a really nice touch, especially as it made my sister not feel left out.

We were offered tea or coffee and our tea pot was delivered quickly. They have a variety of teas from Tea Pigs.
The cake stand was a vintage glass style and it looked really pretty as it was sprinkled with the edible flowers.

The sandwiches were smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise, tuna and onion and ham and mustard. They were fresh and presented perfectly.

The scones were a good size and there was plenty of clotted cream and jam.

There was a mini carrot cake, lemon tart, mini muffin and a chocolate mousse cup. The mini carrot cake was my favourite with a tiny icing carrot on the top. The chocolate mousse cup was good as it was something a bit different.
Our tea pot was refilled before we even has to ask, this doesn’t happen in most places. The waitress was really attentive. She saw us taking photos of each other and she offered to take a picture of us.
I loved the chalkboard advertising the afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea is £14.95 per head or £18.95 for prosecco. It is a really good price and I didn’t feel like I was splashing out for prosecco. It’s a good location for dropping in for a break between shopping.
Booking is required and you can email emma@milkandsugarplease.com

The staff were all really friendly, there was a good atmosphere and the food was really nice. I liked the vintage china with the modern decor and I would definitely be popping by again!
