I came across Gellihaf House from trawling through Instagram and I started following them through their renovations. Gellihaf House is a family run boutique B&B that has been beautifully restored by its new owners.
When I saw they had started serving afternoon tea, I thought I better go check it out. This is the first afternoon tea I’ve been to that you get to choose three sandwich fillings beforehand from: brie & walnut, falafel & humus, cucumber & creme fraiche, free range egg mayonnaise, Caerphilly cheese & chutney, classic coronation chicken or prawn & lemon.
Its about a 30 min drive from Cardiff and when we arrived through the gates the building looked stunning.

We were greeted by Catherine and Howard who were extremely welcoming. We were given a brief story of how they had come to own the house and a bit about it’s history. We were then shown to the dining room. A beautiful room with a lovely view of the garden. Shame it was drizzly as we could have sat outside if we wanted.

We were offered a choice of tea and coffee. I loved the embroidered logo on the napkins and the vintage china. Not sure on the horse table mat though.

When our food arrived I couldn’t wait to dig in. I had opted for the Caerphilly cheese & chutney, egg mayo and the brie and walnut. They were all delicious and I’ve never had brie and walnut before, but this was my favourite. My friend had the coronation chicken, Cucumber and creme fraiche and the egg mayo and enjoyed them all.

The Scones were nice and there was plenty of cream and jam. The cake consisted of mini Welshcakes, millionaires shortbread, cappuccino éclairs with salted caramel topping and lemon and thyme sponge and Key lime pie.

After eating we were invited on a tour of the building and the grounds by Catherine and Howard. The building is stunning, the staircase was imposing and the bedrooms are gorgeous. They also showed us a bedroom which is still being renovated. You can see the renovations on their Instagram page.
The gardens are lovely and you can also play croquet on the lawn. It is a lovely venue for the summer sitting outside, but it is also lovely and cosy for winter. I can imagine it really festive with Christmas trees and fires lit, maybe a festive theme afternoon tea would be good?
Afternoon tea is served on weekends with a 2pm & 4pm sitting. £15.50 per person.
Booking is required and is available online, emailing enquiries@gellihafhouse.co.uk , alternatively call 01443 831518.
It is a stunning building and looks like a lovely place to stay. The hosts are so friendly and welcoming, they really are passionate about their new business. Definitely worth the drive to visit!
